Dental Implants
Chicago Area

Diagram of dental Implants beign attached together in River Forest, IL at Cameo Dental Specialists serving the Chicago Communities.A dental implant is a titanium post that we surgically place to retain a dental crown when the tooth and root are missing. This system is designed to replace single or multiple missing teeth. Working with our team at Cameo Dental Specialists, we can customize a dental plan to restore missing teeth through the surgical insertion of a firm base providing the patient with a more permanent solution.

Many people are aware of dental crowns, conventional bridges or dentures to restore missing teeth, but the problem has always been in the retention of those devices, how to hold them in place. Traditionally, these devices are held in place by sticking them together with other teeth using clasps and cement. Today, our patients have dental implants as an option that provides them with a permanent hold. A hold that allows the patient to forget they ever even lost a tooth.

Recreating that connecting piece and restoring the foundation of the tooth is the most logical and long-lasting solution. A dental implant is that restored root piece. A dental implant is a titanium or zirconium rod that we insert directly into the bone, reestablishing the missing foundation for a tooth. Once the bone has healed around the rod, it will be held firmly and permanently. Dental implants provide patients the closest restoration to their natural teeth.

Reasons For Dental Implants

Patients who are seeking dental implants are generally searching because:

•  The have lost one or more teeth: Dental implants can be used to replace each tooth individually, or as an anchor for one side of a bridge, or in conjunction with a variety of dental appliances.
•  To maintain healthy bone levels: Bone will begin to atrophy almost immediately following the loss of a tooth. This may not be noticeable with one missing tooth, but following the loss of a few teeth, there can be a visible difference in your facial shape.
•  To Support Overdentures: Having your denture stabilized with dental implants can play a huge role in your level of comfort. Implant retained dentures allow the patient to eat their regular diet and feel better in social situations.

Dental Implant Preparation

The process for obtaining a dental implant will vary with the patient and what implant procedure they are having done. Implants come in a wide variety of options including standard implants, mini implants, and longer implants designed to reach denser bone for the retention of dentures. We will customize your plan to you, and the planning is the most complicated part.

Some common preparatory steps to dental implants include:

•  Gum Disease is Under Control: We want to be sure that the gum tissue is free of disease. Patients who are suffering from current chronic periodontitis are susceptible to developing infection, we want to reduce that chance.
•  Able to Heal Properly: Being able to heal timely is important to this procedure. If the patient has a condition or is taking a medication that can slow healing, we will need to address this with the patient or sometimes their physician.
•  Sufficient Bone: Standard implant placement requires sufficient bone to sink the implant into. Depending on the work being done, we may require a bone graft before placement.
