What Is The Difference Between Maxillofacial Surgery And Oral Surgery?Maxillofacial Surgery and Oral Surgery are synonymous terms to describe the profession of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) which involves the treatment of the conditions that affect the face, mouth and jaws. These surgeons attend an additional four to six years of hospital-based surgery and anesthesia training after dental school.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMFS) offer a wide range of services like wisdom teeth removal, dental implant placement, all-on-4 teeth in a day procedure, and office-based anesthesia. They utilize these skills to help their patients with pain and poorly functioning teeth and to restore oral health. Their expertise in office based anesthesia makes procedures more comfortable for patients and takes away the anxiety many patients have with oral surgery.

In addition to these skills, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons also can perform a wide variety of other procedures both in the office and hospital based setting including bone grafting, pathology services (biopsies and treatments), corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery), and fix broken facial bones (facial trauma).
