![]() However, that's not always the case. Wondering if the pain you're feeling could be TMJ? Here are the top three common symptoms of this disorder. PainOne of the major symptoms of TMJ is pain. You might feel this pain in one of several different areas. Your jaw might hurt or feel tender. One or both of the joints that open and close your jaw may hurt. It's even possible that you'll feel pain up near your ears. Some people may not associate pain near the ears with their jaw, so they don't think to call us.In addition to pain in or around the jaw, it's also possible TMJ sufferers will feel pain across their face. Again, this may not immediately seem like a dental issue, but it can be. TMJ is often caused by infection in the jaw. Difficulty EatingAnother symptom that's fairly common with TMJ is difficulty or pain while eating or even talking. When moving your jaw, you may feel some discomfort. Over time, your discomfort can worsen. This is especially true if you have to talk a lot or after eating foods that require a good amount of chewing.Difficulty Moving Your JawFinally, the third most common symptom of TMJ is finding it difficult to move your jaw. The joint can actually lock up, making it very hard to open and close your mouth. This can make it very difficult to talk and eat. There are times when TMJ is so bad or when it recurs so often that the only solution is surgery. We have years of experience in this procedure and can relieve the pain that comes with TMJ. |
