We Can Help if You Suffered Oral Trauma During a Car AccidentOral trauma during a car accident is one of the leading causes of emergency dental visits.

Damage to the face, mouth, and teeth are one of the most common injuries following a motor vehicle accident. Many people neglect to take care of their dental injuries because they are taking care of the rest of their bodies.

It is important to call our office if you were in a traffic accident, so we can look at you and decide if you need dental care for your injuries.

Dental Injuries from a Car Accident

There are several types of injuries that a person will suffer during a car accident. The faster the vehicle is moving, the more damage to the face and mouth. Whatever you do, don't ever pull your own teeth out, even if they are hanging by a thread. We can save pieces that look beyond repair.

Some of the most common dental injuries from a car accident are:

•  A fractured tooth will need treatment to repair the damage. There are three different types of fractures. Ellis I -damage to the enamel, Ellis II-damage to the enamel and dentin, and Ellis III- damage to the enamel, dentin, and pulp.
•  A tooth luxation happens when a tooth is loose, and it can move in all directions. Do not pull your tooth out, no matter how bad it looks. We will attempt to put the tooth back in place.
•  An avulsed tooth is when the tooth is completely off its socket due to the violence of the impact. Pick up the tooth by the crown if possible and place it in a plastic bag filled with saliva, saline solution, or whole milk. There is only a two-hour window to fix a tooth that has been completely knocked out.

It is very important to call our office or have a family member call us after a car accident where you suffered dental damage, so we can look at you as soon as possible.
