![]() However, we see the most dental trauma in the springtime. It could be spring fever that is causing all the problems, but we think it has to do with increased activity. Being cooped up inside all winter can make even the soundest minded people go a little crazy, so we understand the feeling of needing to get out. However, we ask that you take the proper precautions before endeavoring to go outside and have some fun. We often see children who suffer a dental trauma from playing outside, so we urge you to protect your children's teeth whenever possible. Should You Consider A Custom-Fit Mouthguard? The most common dental trauma we see in children is chipped or cracked teeth. It usually happens when a game of football or baseball gets intense. To avoid this kind of dental trauma, it may be a good idea to pop in a mouthpiece before going out to play. A mouthpiece can give the protection your children need and also make sure they don't have to come see us outside their teeth cleanings.Spring is not the only season that sees an increase in dental trauma, however. Slips and falls due to slippery and icy conditions can also lead to dental trauma, as do the occasional snowball that if people are not careful. A lot of families also spend time together going sledding, skiing and snowboarding together. These are activities that could also benefit from the use of a mouthguard. If you're worried about the quality of your children's mouthpiece, we can always create one which will protect their teeth better than an over-the-counter one. When you bring them in, we'll take a mold of their teeth so that we can get a perfect fit. The snugger a mouthpiece is, the better job it does at protecting the teeth. If you have any more questions about how to protect your children's teeth from dental trauma, we are always in our office by the phone. Give us a call, and we'll be happy to help you with anything you need. |
