Pre-Op Instructions

It is important to discuss with your doctor during your consultation any medications you’re currently taking and any you’re not taking but have taken within the last year.

It will also be important to discuss any pre-existing medical conditions you may have like uncontrolled blood pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, Grave’s disease or if you’ve had a recent stroke or heart attack.

For our patients undergoing extraction of third molars and/or implant placement, here are a few instructions we ask that you follow starting a few days leading up to your surgery, unless otherwise specified by your surgeon:

  • Rinse with prescribed chlorhexidine mouthwash twice a day, starting 3 days prior to the procedure.
  • Take the antibiotic prescribed to you, as directed, 1 hour prior to your procedure with a very small sip of water.

If sedation is anticipated:

  • Please be fasted – that’s nothing to eat or drink (including any candy, mints
and/or water etc.) – for 8 hours prior to your scheduled appointment time.
  • Wear comfortable clothes and a short sleeved shirt.
  • Please bring an appropriate escort who will be able to stay in the building for the duration of your procedure. Please note, if the patient is under the age of 18, they will need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Please remove all nail polish and acrylic nails.
