Dr. Lindsay Powers

Periodontist Chicago

Dr. Lindsay Powers was born in Tokyo, Japan and raised in Peoria, Illinois. She attended college at Indiana University in Bloomington with plans to study veterinary medicine. She changed course after spending time with her mother, a dental hygienist, in a Periodontal office. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

Dr. Powers worked in finance for two years before beginning dental school in Southern Illinois. Within weeks of starting dental school, she knew that she had found the perfect fit, as dentistry was a perfect blend of medicine and art. While in school she received the Dean’s Fellowship Award and the Clopper Foundation Award for her research in the neurology of Pain Signaling Pathways. In 2006, she graduated Cum Laude and received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Southern Illinois University. She went on to Periodontal Residency at Saint Louis University, while also teaching dental students at SIUE and dental hygiene students at Lewis & Clark Community College. After performing three years of research during residency, Dr. Powers completed her thesis on survival rates of dental implants performed by residents, and she earned a Masters of Science degree in Periodontics. In 2009 she also completed the American Board of Periodontology exam.

Dr. Powers moved to Chicago in 2010 and began treating patients in need of periodontal care and surgery in the offices of friends. While continuing to work at those offices, she accepted a position at the James A. Lovell Federal Healthcare Center and VA Hospital, near the Great Lakes Naval Base. There, she treated the underserved population of our disabled Veterans and many current Active Duty patients in need of periodontal and surgical care. At the hospital, she also taught Periodontics and Oral Surgery techniques to the Active Duty Navy AEGD residents.

Dr. Powers specializes in regenerative techniques and periodontal plastic (gingival) surgery. She appreciates and strives for a multi-disciplinary and team approach to patient care. She is compassionate, caring and believes a treatment plan that is balanced restoratively and surgically will result in the best treatment outcomes for the patient.

Dr. Powers is Board Certified by the American Board of Periodontology. She is a member of the Midwest Society of Periodontics, the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society and Chicago Dental Society.

Dr. Powers currently lives in Evanston with her husband, son and rescue pets. In her free time she volunteers at the Evanston Animal Shelter, fosters neonate kittens and puppies, and is learning to TNVR feral cats. She also enjoys traveling, exploring, reading and yoga.
