Because our doctors have spent additional years of training, they are well versed and highly skilled in providing our patients with the highest quality of dental care in the Chicago area.

ENDODONTICS

An Endodontist is a dentist who has spent an additional couple of years focused on techniques to save your teeth. They commonly perform root canal treatment. Also, they are the specialist you see when your general dentist has performed a root canal treatment that was not effective. You may need a root canal retreatment, which is a second chance to save the tooth. In other cases when the infected tissue gets into the root tip, an apicoectomy (apico) may be needed. An apico is when your endodontist removed the tip of the root or apex, along with the infected tissue. They will then use a filling to seal the end. In other very rare cases, when the infected material manages to traverse to different canal areas, a periapical surgery is performed. This is a very delicate procedure requiring the use of dental microscopes to extract the infected tissue, allowing the tooth to heal and restore.

You may be nervous or scared about going in for a root canal treatment. With all the advances in dentistry, along with the extensive training our doctors have received, there is nothing to fear. However, we want to make sure you are comfortable, which is why we provide both nitrous oxide and iv sedation to calm your nerves.

PERIODONTICS

A Periodontist is a dentist who has spent additional years of training focusing on the studies of the supporting structures of the teeth, the diseases, and conditions that affect them. The main areas of the supporting tissues are known as the periodontium. That includes the gums or gingiva, cementum, alveolar bone and the periodontal ligament. They are highly trained in the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of periodontal (gum) disease as well as the placement of dental implants. They are equipped with advanced technologies and techniques. Which include the use of the surgical stent for optimal placement of dental implants. They also perform scaling and root planing, which is a deep clean for your teeth and gums. In some more severe cases, they may perform an osseous surgery, which is an extra deep cleaning.

When periodontal (gum) disease has progressed your gums may start to recede. When this happens, our periodontists may perform a gum (gingival) recession treatment or a tissue graft to help restore the gums to their natural place. On the other hand, if your gums cover too much of your teeth and you have a “gummy” smile, they may perform a crown lengthening. If a patient has an abnormal growth or lesion, they may do a gum biopsy to ensure it is not cancerous and to diagnose and treat the growth or lesion.

ORAL SURGERY

An Oral Surgeon is a dentist who has completed additional training in a hospital-based residency program for surgery. They are trained in the techniques of general surgery, anesthesiology and emergency medicine. They are also the only other healthcare specialists besides an anesthesiologist who can administer all levels of general anesthesia. They focus on treating problems in the face, mouth, and jaw, both hard and soft tissues, and the upper jaw referred to as the maxilla.

Oral surgeons perform a wide range of services including wisdom teeth extractions, jaw surgery, palate surgery, sinus augmentation and bone grafts. While dental implants are a highly successful treatment for tooth loss, it does require that there is enough bone mass in the jaw to support the implant. When there isn’t enough bone mass to support the implant, a bone graft or sinus augmentation may be needed. A bone graft is also performed after a tooth is extracted to promote bone growth.

If you are missing most or all of your teeth, or are unhappy with dentures our oral surgeons utilize combined newest and best technologies to restore your teeth and smile with the all-on-4 treatment concept. The all on 4 treatment utilizes four dental implants to fix permanent replacement teeth to your gums. With the All on 4 dental implant treatment, you will have your smile back in no time.
